Frequently Asked Questions

What do you mean by hard (printed) copy magazine?

This is the physical magazine printed on paper.

What do you mean by digital (e-zine) magazine?

This is an electronic or computer-based magazine. It can be read online or downloaded from a particular web site to your computer.

When and why did you decide to have a digital magazine?

The decision was made earlier in 2010 after much consideration to take advantage of technology. Many small and niche market publishers are going this route, because it provides flexibility, greater reach and allows them to continue publishing.

Are you going to now have a hard copy and a digital version of JamaicanEats magazine?

Yes. The introduction of the JamaicanEats Membership ship program will allow us to offer both versions. This provides options for readers who want to do away with paper and prefer a digital magazine, and it satisfies readers who prefer to have the paper version of the magazine in hand.

What is the difference between being a subscriber and a JamaicanEats member?

Subscribers get 4 editions of the (printed)magazine. Those who subscribe to the digital version will get the digital version only.

Members receive:
  • 4 editions of the printed and digital versions of the magazine.

  • A gorgeous Caribbean food calendar (with recipes from various islands).

  • A CD of Jamaican proverbs and the quirks of island life by well known Jamaican writer, cultural educator and comedienne Joan Andrea Hutchinson.

  • Members only access to a section of the JamaicanEats web site. This area of the site will include all the recipes printed in JamaicanEats magazine and updated with each new edition. Recipes will be indexed, saving time and frustration of locating, then searching through each back edition to find a recipe.

  • Giveaways for members only. Throughout the year members will be able to win great prizes. Join by August 31, 2010, and be entered to win Rosemary Parkinson’s much sought after book Nyam Jamaica or one of 2 signed copies of Joan Andrea Hutchinson’s fantastic new book,  Kin Teet’ Kibba Heart Bun.

  • Plus, members will get special discounts from JamaicanEats advertisers and sponsors. Updates will be made available throughout the year.

I’m a subscriber, will I be able to transfer my subscription to a membership?

Can I simply remain a subscriber?

Yes. Subscribe or renew your subscription by August 31, 2010, and be entered in a draw to win one of 2 signed copies of Joan Andrea Hutchinson’s fantastic new book,  Kin Teet’ Kibba Heart Bun.

Note: A total of 4 signed copies of Kin Teet’ Kibba Heart Bun are up for grabs. Two will be given away to randomly selected members who join by August 31; and 2 to randomly selected subscribers who subscribe or renew their
subscriptions by August 31.

Is there a price difference between regular subscription and the digital subscription?

Yes, please go to www.jamaicaneats.com and click on subscription for details.

How can I find out how many editions I have left on my membership?

If you’re unsure, please e-mail us at info@jamaicaneats.com or sweetpotatopress@yahoo.com.

Will I be able to buy copies of the magazine in bookstores and other retail outlets?

A small quantity of magazines may be on sale in    a handful of outlets in one or two cities (to be decided). Digital versions will soon be on sale.

Will I still be able to purchase back editions?

You will be able to purchase hard copies of back issues while quantities last. Digital versions of the back issues will be available for purchase.

How many editions of the magazine will you be publishing in 2010?

Two editions: August 2010 (Vol. 3 #3) and December 2010 (Vol. 3 #4).

When will I get the August edition?

The digital (e-zine) version will first be distributed starting in mid-August. All subscribers and members will receive a password allowing them to download it to their computer.

The hard copy will be printed and distributed with the December edition later in the year.

Will you still have a Collectors’ Edition?

The Collectors’ Edition was to be an annual hard copy compilation of the 3 e-zines done each year. Because we will have the have hard copy version of the magazine again there is no need for a Collectors’ Edition.
